New Theme Park Proposed for Australia
Village Roadshow, an attractions management company has announced plans to build a theme park at the Werribee Open Range Zoo in Melbourne, Australia.
The new theme park park would become the largest in Australia, creating over 7000 jobs and the park could be open to the public as soon as 2010. The project is estimated to cost around AUS$220m (£104m, €129m, US$206m) and will be partly funded by the Australian government.
Earlier this year, Village Roadshow acquired the Sydney Attractions Group - whose attractions include Sydney Aquarium, Sydney Wildlife World and Sydney Tower – in a deal worth AUS$141m (£65.3m, €87.5m, US$127m).
Village Roadshow now operates one of the region’s largest portfolio of visitor attractions, which includes two Sea World Resorts on the Gold Coast, the Wet ’n’ Wild Water World near Brisbane, the Sydney Aquarium and Sydney Skywalk.
In March, the company acquired the Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park and Kelly Tarlton’s Antarctic Encounter & Underwater World in Auckland, New Zealand.
